Tigers hunt people, are ambidextrious, hunt at night a lot, I'd say a tiger is scarier---but bears are sometimes unpredictable. Lions generally avoid humans, as do bears. In some areas, tigers actively hunt humans.
Lions, Tigers %26amp; Bears....oh my! (Which is scariest?)?
When my 2 year old son crawls around the house pretending to be a tiger. Scary stuff!
Reply:For me personally it is bears.... There are 2 bears that live near my house and have been known to get into my neighbor's trash cans...I have to keep an eye out when the kids are just out the back door just in case....Bears are a real scare here....
Peace.

Lions, Tigers, and Bears! Oh my! Which one do you not want to be chased by? What would you do?
A Lion, I would scamper up a tree. Lions can't climb trees, the other two can.
Lions, Tigers, and Bears! Oh my! Which one do you not want to be chased by? What would you do?
A bear..When lions or tigers are after you, theyre looking for a meal. Bears most often just want to make sure youre not a threat, and when I lay down and play dead, there is a very high chance that I will live to tell my story. I would not run from any of them tho cause it is impossible, and unless there was a tree like right next to me, there would be no time to climb it because these animals are so fast!
Reply:a tiger
Reply:I don't think I could out run any of them........I guess I'd be a nice chew toy.

Reply:Being of the feline persuasion, the lion and tiger wouldn't chase me : if anything they'd protect me! Brother bear hasn't learned manners yet, so I'd keep my distance.
I'd talk nicely to him and tell him I really don't taste that great.
Reply:im not bothered they can chase me its my ex mother in law i dont want 2 be chased by her ewww lol

Tigers and Lions mating?
Ever since I saw that there was a Polar Bear/Grizzly Bear mixed bear found, I was wondering if there could possibly be a Tiger/Lion mixed animal? Suppose they were both raise together as cubs and lost their fear of each other... BTW, I saw what looked like a Donkey/Zebra mixed animal at the San Mateo County Fair.
Tigers and Lions mating?
The liger (Panthera leogris) is a cross (a hybrid) between a female tiger and a male lion. A liger looks like a giant lion with diffused stripes. Some male ligers grow sparse manes. Like tigers, but unlike lions, ligers enjoy swimming. All ligers are presumed to be born sterile. The liger is the largest animal in the feline family Felidae. As big cat hybridisations go, this is a relatively common combination, occurring quite often in captivity by accident, and very occasionally by design. Ligers generally inherit a love of the water which comes from their tiger parent, but it can take some time for the tiger side of their personality to convince the lion side that water is a great thing. Apparent confusion between the lion and the tiger sides of a liger's personality is quite often noted by handlers.
A cross between a male tiger and a female lion is called a tigon. There is less interest in tigons because they do not reach the same impressive size as the liger. The tigon is not as common as the converse hybrid, the liger, however in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, tigons were more common than ligers. The Tigon is very rare, only a few exist in the worldand those are held only by private owners. This is because it is much more difficult to get the male tiger to mate with the female lion. Tigons look very similar to ligers. They have varying stripes and spots. Tigons are also orangish in color. Males may have a mane, but will be very modest. They are able to produce both lion and tiger sounds when they roar.
Reply:any port in a storm I suppose, Liger, yeah, I saw Napoleon Dynomite, too
Reply:There is. i saw it in my science book. its called a tigron or a liger.
Reply:There are not one but two different kinds of lion/tiger hybrids. One is from a female tiger and a male lion and is called a liger. They are giant animals, reaching 1000 pounds. I got to see one once at a zoo in Florida. A tigron, on the other hand, is from a female lion and male tiger. They are really small, only about 150 pounds. I've never seen a tigron.
Reply:this has actually happened. they don't look as cool as you'd expect though. i think they're called ligers.
Reply:Yes a tiger and a lion can mate in captivity, since they are closely related. Now if you mate a male lion with a female tiger you would get a liger, but if you mate male tiger with a female lion it would be a tigon. In the wild it would be impossible, since there are no tigers in africa. And the only place where you would find lions in Asia is in the Gir forest of India. Although tigers are found in India, it would be unlikely for a tiger to encounter a lion. So far there are no tigers to be found in the same area as the Asiatic lion.
Reply:just wanted to mention in addition to all the other info given...the reason this does not happen in nature is becasue Lions are found in Africa and Tigers are found in Asia.
Reply:It has been done and they are refered to as "Ligers"
Reply:yes, it's either called a "tigon" or a "liger" depending on which is the mother
Reply:They can, but only on rare occasions will the offspring be born alive, and if they are they won't be fertile.
Reply:There is a tiger/kion mix, it's called a Liger (yes they really de exist) Ligers are bigger than either lions or tigers and usualy don't have the hormon that stops them from growing so they have shortish life spans.
Reply:Hybridization between tigers and lions is possible and has been undertaken by animal breeders for a very long time. Even some of the offspring were able to reproduce, but all of the next generation were sterile.
These interbreedings only occur in artificial circumstances, never in the wild. It highlights that most people's definitions of species are somewhat simplistic (focusing on the mere fact of reproduction). In reality, divisions between species is as much about the prevention of reproduction due to divergences in geography, physical characteristics, or (most important) differing behaviors.
Lions are herd animals with a patriarchal mating structure. Tigers are solitary animals where animals and females come together for just a few minutes. There is no way these animals could every breed in nature.
Reply:It would be weird if there was a tiger/lion mixed animal B-)

red wings (sorry i know nuthin of hockey)

The Lions are good enough to win maybe one game.
The Pistons should be good enough to make the playoffs
The Red Wings also should be good enough to make the playoffs and hopefully won't choke in the first round again.
Reply:Tigers have a chance at winning the whole thing if they stay healthy and stay hot. You can never say for sure though because you never know when a team might hit a slump or another team might become extremely hot.
The Loins will be luck if they win a game this year... maybe when they play the packers again.
Not too sure about the other teams, but if I remember correctly, the Red Wings are getting a little bit old. And I think the Pistons need to play amazingly to make it to the finals because they are up against a lot of talent... especially in Miami.

Lions, Tigers and Bears...Oh My!?
I am leaving in less than a month to study abroad in South Africa. I have heard that on occasion lions wander into the city where I will live. If I should see a lion wandering about, does anyone know what to do? Especially if it should walk up to me?
Thank you!
Lions, Tigers and Bears...Oh My!?
I would check with the local officials and advisors about this
and other important things you should know about the area (where to call for help or emergency, etc.)
The mistake made when the tiger attacked the Las Vegas performer was that he fell below the "eye level" of the tiger, and thus triggered predatory instincts to attack. So it is important never to be lower to ground level, or you will be viewed as a target or prey.
I understand it helps to appear as tall and as big or large as possible, so I would try to stay on higher ground than the lion or tiger. Again, I would ask the locals about safety procedures.

Here are two examples of what I found for "Mountain Lion":

Puma safety tips
Do not hike alone; go in groups with adults supervising children. When hiking, appropriate clothing for rough terrain will aid in movement and evasion.
If confronted by a puma, do not run; that might stimulate its instinct to chase, and they can quickly outrun any person. Instead, stand and face the animal, but do not make eye contact (experts suggest looking at the feet).
Don't "play dead." Pumas are likely to eat a human who plays dead. This behavior is similar to that of Black bears, but unlike Grizzly bears.
Pick up young children without bending or turning from the puma (if possible). (Comment: When under an attack by a dog, experts recommend NOT picking up a child; because that act may be interpreted as you attacking, which would encourage the dog(s) to join in the supposed attack. Instead place yourself between the animal and the child. Whether or not this applies to cougars is open.)
Do everything possible to appear larger or intimidating, including raising arms wildly, opening up jacket, and throwing stones and branches.
Do not crouch down or bend over; this may create the appearance of an ordinary quadruped prey rather than a typically non-prey biped.
Fight back if attacked. Pumas have been repelled with rocks, knives, firearms, sticks, garden tools, kicks, and bare hands.
Install motion-sensitive outdoor lighting.
Keep pets from roaming and never feed pets outside. Be wary when leaving pets outside, particularly at dawn and dusk.
Do not climb a tree, as pumas can climb better than humans.

Wildlife experts recommend the following in areas with mountain lions:
°Travel with a companion and avoid dawn, dusk and evening hours.
°Do not approach a lion - and back away slowly.
°Do not run from a lion, since it may mistake you for prey.
°Do not bend over or crouch down, even to pick up children.
°Make yourself appear larger by opening a jacket, raising your arms and speaking loudly and slowly.
°Throw rocks or sticks to discourage predatory behavior. If attacked, fight back with whatever is at hand and try to protect your head and neck.
Reply:I would think that you should run and hide.

Lions live in big prides, the females do most of the hunting, they live in Africa.
For the rest, if you look at information on tigers, then look at info on lions, you should be able to make your own list of the differences.

Why do lions and tigers only hunt at night ?
lions and tigers only seem to hunt at night
Why do lions and tigers only hunt at night ?
Stealth, they can't be seen as readily.
In addition it's taxing to be out during the day because of the heat. Couple that with lions being in Africa and the temperatures there adds to them hunting at night. Not to mention their prey sleeps during the night.
Reply:Because There Cats. There Awake A Night More Then Morning. And If They Have Even A Tiny Little Bit Of Light They Can See Great!
Reply:because they are "nocturnal" creatures....and thats what their instincts tell them to do. Also, thats when their food source is available.....which is all the other nocturnal little creatures. They can see in the dark too.
Reply:Not true. My guess is more towards dusk or twilight. Since tigers and lions depend on stealth and stalking to catch their prey (unlike the cheetah, who just chases them) this might pose an advantage.(then again, probably not, as most animals in the savannah are colorblind...well, at least half of them are)
Reply:Because they can...
Reply:no they don't! Lions hunt early mornings and evenings, when it's not too hot.
Reply:you got that totally wrong
Reply:because they're cats and cats are nocturnal. Also, they see better at night.
Reply:Rubbish.
Reply:They hunt at night because they also see better at night and have more chance to catch.. and other animals, its hard for them to see the lion/tiger aproaching...
Reply:Lions usually hunt at night, alone, or in groups. Their preferred prey are large hoofed mammals, such as zebras and wildebeests, but they will go after small hares as well as huge giraffes. Typically, a lion hunting alone will slowly and silently stalk its prospective victim, trying not to be seen, until it is about 30 m (about 98 ft) away. Then with a burst of speed, the lion will run toward the prey, grab it, and throw it to the ground. The lion kills the prey by biting the back of the animal’s neck with sharp canine teeth or by holding the prey's throat in its jaws until the animal suffocates. If, during a hunt, the prey detects the lion's presence and starts to run, the lion gives up. Although lions are capable of high speed over short distances, they do not have the endurance to chase down an escaping animal.
Reply:so that they arent caught
Reply:They don't. They sleep most of the day and night and hunt when they are awake.
Reply:they don't we do you live we're you see
and tigers?
Reply:Stealth...rudely.lol
Reply:Because they work 1st shift at the factory and then sleep all 2nd shift. Night time is their only free time to hunt and do hobbies...
Reply:Easy. lions and tigers only hunt at night because they can be sneaky and quiet during the night when they are hunting. Their prey could not easily see them, but they can see them because they have good eyesight.
Reply:Lions and Tigers hunt at night because they have good night sight. Also because there are night animals to hunt. They don't hunt at night all the time though.
Reply:At night they don't be afraid of hunters haha.
Kisses from Wales, UK.
Reply:they do hunt in daytime but prefer night so that they can't be seen from a large distance. Their massive bodies restrict their chase for a short time.
Reply:full of $hit they hunt all the time. have you never seen any wildlife documentaries/programmes?
Reply:THERE nocktowl like a owl
Reply:They're sneaky...
Reply:They won't get caught.
Reply:simple. if they hunt at night, its harder for the prey to see 'em, which gives them an advantage.
Reply:Due to their prey's habits allot of what they hunt is weakend at night giving them an advantage its also cooler so it conserves more energy , and they can hide a catch eaier from scavngers etc
Reply:so thier prey cant see them, because cats can see at night
Reply:Because they are sleeping during the day.
Reply:your information about the hunting strategies of lions and tigers is wrong. it is the leopard that hunts at night. lions and tigers hunt whenever they choose. not limited to night, at all.
wrong, wrong, wrong!
Reply:So that they won't have an unfair advantage over any blind animals!
Reply:well no they hunt at day too
BUT they hunt at night as well because thier eyes have night vision that their pray dosn't have
so its an advantage
but if you watch the discovery channel or animal planet you would see they also hunt at day
and my explantion is taken from a special I saw a few weeks ago on animal planet

Why do tigers have bigger canines than lions even for similar sized cats?
Lions have 3-31/4 inch canines while tigers have it 4 inches. Both lions and tigers came from the same ancestors and might have begun with similar canine size. My reasoning for this is that lions canines evolved for the kinds of meat they are required to deal with. Lions eat tougher meat(bigger animals) more frequently than a tiger. Big cats have to bend sideways and scissor its way into the meat. Bigger canines makes it harded for tougher meat which needs more scissoring.

Why do tigers have bigger canines than lions even for similar sized cats?
Tigers are slightly larger cats than lions. Also, the tiger is a discendant of the saber tooth tiger with was known for ginormous canines

Fact: Predators eat Prey ... It survival. We humans (mammals) are no different. For those who are vegetarians with their beliefs, it's cool with me for them to eat anything besides meat. I like my burgers and steaks.
Reply:Because they feel that we should know better. They feel that humans are different than other animals and humans should not be a part of mother nature but be some kind of higher animal that knows the difference between right and wrong. I agree with you--nature set forth the rules about animals needing to eat other animals, and since I am an animal too, why shouldn't I eat animals just like other animals do?
Reply:Humans have an unusually cruel way of treating the animals before they eat them. Look up factory farm videos.
Reply:They're out of touch with reality. They think that if you don't eat meat, the livestock industry with go under and all the animals will be set free! They don't realize the animals will die anyway, and that mankind was designed to eat plants AND meat.

Does anybody actually give a crap about Detroit & Michigan in general, including the tigers, lions & pistons?
Do they even have any tigers and lions in Michigan ... or red wings? It's a loser sports town and has been forever. Why can't Michiganders just keep their mouths shut?
Does anybody actually give a crap about Detroit %26amp; Michigan in general, including the tigers, lions %26amp; pistons?
Do I say anything about your state? NO!!!
I am not from Detroit and I am glad for that. I am not a big sports fan. I do not run my mouth about our teams.
I am a Michigander and love it. Michigan has so much beauty in so many ways. The people, the scenery is fantastic, and our sports fans are dedicated. Hopefully, those in your state feel the same.
Be nice and maybe you will get a free Little Ceasers Pizza at one of those games.

How did people in ancient Rome capture Lions, Tigers, etc. for the colosseum?
What method(s) did ancient Romans use to capture all sorts of African/Asian animals such as Lions, Cheetahs, Tigers for slaughter in the colosseum? Please include a reference if possible.
How did people in ancient Rome capture Lions, Tigers, etc. for the colosseum?
Virgil wrote of an account of the celebrations and where the different animals came from. Augustine also wrote on the subject. you know the games started as a funeral celebration. the idea of the animals was to show man was better than animals. that the animal was at the mercy of Rome just like any living thing in their control
Reply:Animals were imported from the far reaches of the Empire. This activity was usually 'outsourced' to the local natives of the region. The natives were told what was needed and they trapped and caged the beasts for shipment to Rome (and other amphitheaters of the Empire).
Reply:The Romans purchased those animals from traders from Africa and Asia, Romans not only purchase animals but also slaves to be trained as Gladiators together with the criminals.
Reply:Romans did not do the catching themselves they simply traded with African traders to bring the exotic creatures from Africanus (mainly). So it would have been the poor Africans that did the difficult bit, Romans would have used a series of middlemen traders to get the animals to the Beast master at the Coliseum

A question concerning keeping large exotic cats as pets, lions tigers and such?
A story on the news the other day mentioned that the US now has the largest population of tigers and second largest population of african lions in captivity in the world, most are kept as private pets in populated areas,in flimsy cages without proper care, they have no fear of humans and attacks by these animals are increasing every year.My question is , Is there a possibility of enough of these animals getting into the wild to have a breeding population and what would the effects be? Imagine a few dozen tigers running around in cattle country or a pride of lions running around in your local national forest..
A question concerning keeping large exotic cats as pets, lions tigers and such?
Interesting question, but doesn't seem like the environment is very suitable for their breeding.
That being said, I heard a story on the news several months ago about some scientists who wanted to bring all the types of animals from Africa and create a "wild" sort of park area in unpopulated portions of US. Crazy.
Reply:Excellent question!
I'm going to get some TATER TOTS and think on that one!
Best wishes!
Reply:It'd be just like Jurassic Park, except with the fur instead of the scales...
We'd all be hunted and eaten, one by one, starting with the sleazy lawyer character and the crooked computer technician.
Reply:Not to worry, the hunters would have a Field day. Even a Bengal tiger is no match for a .308 Winchester. Hunting permits would probably be worth more than the cattle.
Reply:It can't happen. The big cats are easy to find in the wild, they are an easy mark for hunters and their reproductive rate is so low that their populations could not increase fast enough to outpace the hunting pressure that would ensue.
Reply:I don't think they would be able to survive if they got out. They have trouble reintroducing the endangered tigers back into the wild in captive breeding programs due to the tigers not being able to hunt successfully and live on their own when being raised in captivity.

Can Lions and Tigers survive on a diet that does not include animal protein?
In my unending quest to determine the truth about whether humans were designed by God to "require" animal protein to live I ask this question. Can Lions, Tigers, Bears, or Alligators live(in good health) on a diet that does NOT include animal protein?
Can Lions and Tigers survive on a diet that does not include animal protein?
As for the bear, that's questionable since bears are, like humans, omnivores. Strict carnivores, especially cats like lions and tigers have a very short digestive tract which is incapable of digesting protiens and nutrients from vegetable matter. Same with alligators. Cats, and dogs, often eat grass, but they do that as a sort of digestive aid since the grass helps them go poop because it cannot be digested. Not kidding. I worked at a big cat rescue for 7 years and picked up a huge ammount of lion and tiger poop, and grass came out looking exactly the same as when it went in. The wild lions and tigers ingest a tiny ammount of vegetable protein by eating the contents of their preys stomachs. Carnivores have to eat meat and cannot survive on a vegetarian or vegan diet. As far as your ethical question, I can only provide my own personal opinion. Since our bodies are capable of digesting meat and we can get ill if we do not maintain enough protein and the only way to survive on vegetarian or vegan diets is with supplements that Adam and Eve certainly couldn't find (as there were no health food stores in the garden of Eden) I think that humans were designed to be omnivores and eat both plants and animals.
Reply:Yes, but you should pardon the expression, its' a bear. Balancing vegetable proteins in sufficient quantities and proportions to maintain their health would require serious research. Not all protiens are equal.

How did Detriot gets the Lions and Tigers, and Chicago gets the Bears?
I bet you will know the movie, the Wizard of Oz. And I bet you remember this quote "Lions, Tigers and Bears oh my". Well I would like to know how did Detriot gets Lions and Tigers, and Chicago gets the Bears. With both the Lions and Bears being football teams, and the Detriot Tigers are a baseball team. Was there no room in Detriot for all 3 teams, or how do you think that all this happened? I have no idea, how about you, any guesses on your part?
How did Detriot gets the Lions and Tigers, and Chicago gets the Bears?
The Chicago Bares were named after their owner George "Papa Bear" Hallas.
Now for the Lions and Tigers, I think the owners held a contest and people voted on the names. You might try wikipedia and see if there is an answer there.

Reply:Cats - yes, house cats. Mine - all 6 of them - are gorgeous, have great faces, and such unique personalities. Two keep me company at night when my husband has to be away. One is a little terrorist, and she knows it - Siamese of course. Then there is the large headed, soft, cuddly tom who is so patient with life and all around him. He has a gorgeous mane.
I've never been big on liking animals that are wild and potentially dangerous. Kittens are cute, but a bit too rambunctious. Glad they grow up.

Tigers and lions in dreams?
I know that it's best to interpret oneself s dreams when not in mental or emotional instability, but I would appreciate other points of view. I had a dream which took setting at my aunt's garage (which is quite big, open, but with a roof); it looked larger in my sleep. My aunt was breeding or taking care of tigers and lions in what looked like a small city canal of the width of a person in the upper part; the kind of canals made of concrete that have a lesser width at the bottom than at the top which are used to make way for the water when it rains only. I was half-present, half-observer in the canal and in there I witnessed many generations of lions, tigers, ligers, and tigons (the last two are a combination of first ones) being left there and taken, cubs and adults alike. They were not aggressive, I might even describe them as kind and gentle. I THINK there were less of them for each generation; I only remember that the last generation that I saw were two tigons. What do you think?

I'm not sure what the big cats symbolize, but maybe you want to help the big cat population by protecting them.
Reply:Tigers and lions tend to represent power and strength.
For example, maybe you were reviewing how you are trying to care for or improve your sense of empowerment in your life. Maybe you are trying different things to establish your boundaries in relationships so that you get hurt less often, or even hurt others less often.
Good luck, I hope this helps and best wishes in figuring out your dreams!

Tigers and lions in dreams?
Tigers, Lions, Cats = freedom
garage = place to store things, readiness
The dream may be about some freedom you are seeking. However, since this dream is involved with your aunt's garage and/or your aunt. It may have something to do with her as well. Garage in that case may symbolize some readiness in you. In other words, you may be seeking for some sort of freedom in reality and you may not be ready yet. Your aunt in this case may be your support for things you want to do in reality. She may be your ultimate help.
The lions, tigers being kind and gentle shows symbol of slowness to your desire. In other words, you may have some freedom in mind and in it you may be feeling a little lean backward. You may be needing some push for things you want to do. Projecting lions, tigers, big cats in garage basically signifies some restriction you want to get away from, but you are doing it the slow way.

Were tigers and lions decended from the same ancestral line?
From my point of view, these two were the only cats that can truely roar in this world. The only difference is tigers are usually a solitary animals while lions live in groups.Lions prefer living in wider area such as the African savanah with brown colored fur while tigers usually found deep in a rainforest where they developed black stripes and yellowish background on their fur. Both the African lions and Siberian tigers are equally match in strength and size. These are world's most powerful modern cats that nature has produced for millions of years in evolution. The most amazing thing about them is that they can actually crossbreed and gave birth to a cross-species called "liger"(lion+tiger). Can anybody give me some infos about the main question please?
Were tigers and lions decended from the same ancestral line?
Yes they are closely related to one another. So closely that calling the two a separate species is based more on geographic separation than any great genetic difference.
They are all members of the Panthera family.
Tigers lions leopards and jaguars can all roar because of the incomplete ossification of the hyoid bone.
Reply:liger is the term for a male lion and a female tiger cub . A tigron is a male tiger and a female lion cub. Yes they have descended from the same ancestrial line
