LlONS AND TIGERS AND BEARS! OH SHlT!!!?

Wouldn't that have been more accurate for Dorothy to say? In the movie she just sounded so nonchalant about it.

What if lions vs tiger?

......lions would win coz i feel their more fit n stronger

What if lions vs tiger?
But the Tiger is more ferocious. I'd go with the Tiger. Go Tigers!
Reply:well they both belong in the same specie....i really dont wanna choose between the two cuz i love them both..however as a lion king fanatic..i'll bet on the lion...to really continue the great cycle of life......^^
Reply:a pride of lions would kill a tiger but in a one on one match the larger, more muscular tiger would win-the king is only the king because he has the support of his subjects.
Reply:Dude, Tigers are the biggest cats in the world. They weigh as much as 700 lbs. A lion is about 500 lbs. And unlike Lions, tigers hunt alone while Lions usually hunt in groups. So one on one a Tiger would have to be the favorite in the match up.
Reply:The Discovery Channel or The Learning Channel had a program on this once. There was a simulated battle between them. Whereas I usually hear of the tiger being called the superior large cat, despite the lion's given title, the program gave the win to the lion.

The male lion's role it to protect the pride and female lions from male lions. It's not true to say that it does nothing.
Reply:Actually, Tigers.

Siberian tigers are much larger than 700 lbs.

Think more like a half ton.

Lions are closer to 500 to 600 lbs.

No contest.
Reply:Draw.
Reply:if the female lion vs tiger I would vote for the female lion.

If the male lion vs the tiger I would vote for the tiger.

I think that the female lion is more organized than male lion or tiger.
Reply:I wish the tiger would win coz tigers look nicer.
Reply:i would go with the tiger. male lions, the "kings" of the jungle, really do nothing but keep predators away. the female lions are the ones that hunt, not the males. the male lion sleeps 20 hours a day. it really does nothing. so, because of this, i think the tigger would win because it has much more practice in killing (as it hunts for itself), and if i recall correctly, tigers are slightly larger than lions
Reply:Tiger, lions are lazy in general, they just sleep, eat and ****. Tigers hunt more.

But if was the female ones involved, maybe the lion have a chance.

PS: I dont know if "lion" can be female to, in portuguese "leão" = male lion and "leoa" = female lion.

Also, in your question is "lionS" vs tiger" so, if they are in better odd, they surely will own the tiger xD

Do lions attack humans for no reason, or only if they are hungry?

What is the difference between male and female lions? Also, What are more ferocious lions or tigers?

Do lions attack humans for no reason, or only if they are hungry?
if both are carnivore then both are ferocious
Reply:Very very good `ol zookeeper. I am impressed with your knowledge !!! You are such a tiger !!!
Reply:lions only attack if they feel thretened wether to them or to their kin

male lions have manes

also female lions do the hunting and take care of their young
Reply:Let me go ask the Lion.... Hello mr lion... AHHHHHHH,........ And unless u can ask da lion u'll never know will u....................
Reply:Generally speaking, lions - and other big cats - do not see humans as prey, and will try to avoid them, whether or not they are hungry. For example, if you are on safari and are watching lions from a vehicle, they will ignore you completely. Get out of the vehicle, and they will nearly always get up and move away at once. Big cats usually only become man-eaters if they are injured in some way and are unable to catch their natural prey, and even then they must first learn that humans are easy to kill. They would of course attack to protect themselves or their young if they felt threatened, but they would give you fair warning to back off first - if a snarl and a few mock-charges didn't do the trick, only then would they actually attack you in earnest.

Aside from the obvious male/female differences, male lions are larger than females and have a thick mane of fur around the neck and shoulders. This serves to make them appear larger and more intimidating to rivals and more attractive to females, and helps protect the throat during fights. Contrary to what some people believe, male lions do hunt. It's true that the females do most of the hunting, since the male's mane means he can be more easily spotted by the prey, and in any case his main role is to protect the pride from invading males, but he will sometimes join the hunt with the females, particularly when hunting large prey such as buffalo. Also, young males who have left their natal pride but not yet taken over one of their own have no choice but to hunt for themselves.

Incidentally, lion is the common name of the species Panthera leo, and applies to both males and females. A female lion is often called a lioness, but it is just as accurate to call her a lion.

Lions and tigers are probably equally ferocious - both are highly territorial and will defend their turf from others of their own kind, both take large and dangerous prey, and both will kill other predators to reduce the competition for prey. In terms of danger to humans, tigers are known to become man-eaters more often than lions.
Reply:The difference between male and female lions are that male lions have a main (the extra hair around their neck and head) While girls look like big giant cats. Watch Lion King if you still don't understand the difference between male and female lions.

Lions attack humans only if they're hungry, or if you are seriously bugging them.

Female lions are more furious than tigers. (Male Lions just eat, sleep, and if they feel like it, they'll help hunt.)
Reply:Lions and most other animals will only attack human if they feel threatened by that human. I'm not sure if I would want to meet up with one though!
Reply:if you go and try and pet the lion, you'll get killed. keep your distance from them and the lion cubs, and you'll be fine.
Reply:They don't attack people cause they're hungry!! They attack if they feel threatened by the human. Female lions have female organs and male lions have male organs...hahha. And the male has a mane and is generally bigger, whereas the female doesn't have a mane. Females tend to live longer, average life expectancy is like 18 years whereas the male's is about 12. And generally speaking the males do not hunt, but watch the females, who do go hunting.

Both lions and tigers are really territorial, so they are equally ferocious.
Reply:Males are more vicious and attack when thay are hungry
Reply:Male = Lion

Female = Lioness

and theyll attack if threatened or feel threatened
Reply:they attack when hungry or when you are all up in their space.

male lion has the mane (lots of longer neck fur)

and female lions do not have that, they look less ferocious.
Reply:they attack because that is there nature and because they may feel threatened by you.....

but lions are natural born killers so they do it by nature...

and most of the time they would run from you......
Reply:No reason required, THEY WILL KILL YOU.

Wang.

A lion would kick a tigers *** any day of the week.
Reply:they attack out of fear....(rarely hunger) they usually have a reason unless there sick (ex. rabies like things).......the main diff with the male and female lions is the females hunt and male lions take care of the cubs...and if im not mistaken tigers are ":called" more ferocious but that i dont know.
Reply:Have you been attaked lately or are you just curious because I work at a zoo and I could set you up on a little lunch date!
Reply:Only if they are hungry or feel threatened.

Which animal can kill or hunt lions?

I've seen on animal planet many occasions where the lions kill all sorts of animals everyday. So I wonder which animal can kill a lion?? I pity those animals which lost their lives to those hungry lions but I've never seen any animal killing a lion or even hunt a lion. Even tigers %26amp; cheetahs are afraid of the beast. Why?

Which animal can kill or hunt lions?
No animal regularly hunts and eats lions, however crocodiles have killed and eaten a few. It isn't part of their normal diet but they are opportunistic feeders. Also an Egyptian cobra can make a lion very, very sick and even kill it. The snake is not hunting lions and does not eat lions but is a mean animal and if suprised would bite defensively. Killer bees can drive of a whole pride of lions. Hyenas hate lions but rarely get the opportunity to surround one and kill it. African Cape buffalo have killed lions. The despise lions with a hatred. Lions will kill and eat buffalo they have isolated from the group.

Some lions are smart enough for human beings to make them uneasy. They know our power all to well as some lions have been killed by humans and these same lions are very wary. This may help explain why the lions don't usually just charge the cameraman and attempt to eat him.
Reply:a King Cobra Can easily kill a lion

Henas are natural competetaors of lions and can kill them and lions can also be killed in the battle to kill the wild buffalow.

And dont forget Humans
Reply:Lions never attack a human filming a documentary as they are usually full at the time of filming. They hunt when hungry, and when necessary, not when they are resting.
Reply:humans top of the food chain
Reply:other lions, crocodiles, rhinos, elephants, a polar bear, but they dont live in africa. and why would you pity an animal who died to feed another animal and kept it alive.
Reply:guns don't kill lions, people kill lions

(so do bacteria, but they are not animals)
Reply:belive it or not hippos can kill almost about anything

they run super fast in short bursts of speed

hippos can kill a lion in one bite to the jaw
Reply:Lions are picked up by big eagle type birds when they are young which keeps the population dowm. They older ones are sometimes killed by being gored by a horned animal or by another younger nasty male liion.
Reply:I'd say that man has to be the largest threat to lions. It depends on wether you consider us to be an animal or not. Another killer of lions would have to be insects and small rodents. Their bites might contain diseases that would kill the lion.
Reply:other lions, elephants
Reply:Yup, man is the lions only enemy.

I suppose one could argue that parasites like ticks or mosquitoes hunt lions, but they would have a hard time killing one.
Reply:Man is possibly the animal that can kill or hunt lions.

About the people who don't get killed while on some filming for channels like NGC. I think that they do the filming very carefully. They spend months and years to shoot a 60 minute documentary. They study the moves of the animals and then film it accordingly. Probably they film it when the lion is full in the stomach and does not feel hungry enough to hunt ! or eat !
Reply:NONE!!!!
Reply:hyenas give them a run.
Reply:Man is the biggest killer of lions. After that, I'd say dog creatures (hyenas, etc) and then other big cats. The other big cats may not attack adult lions, but they certainly will steal the cubs if the opportunity presents itself.
Reply:Lions as strong as they appear can be killed by a variety of animals. A one-on-one with a rhinoceres, a hippo, a buffalo or an adult elephant can easily mean the death of the lion. However, in daily life danger for lions comes in the shape of venomous snakes - like the black mamba, a spitting cobra or even the vipers! I've seen documentaries showing lions being killed by snakes like these.

Tigers and lions have historically never shared a territority. Tigers are creatures of the jungle and they are far more shy than lions and not half as agressive as them.

Lions like all animals are scared of humans. We can call it neophobia - scared of things that are new. We see park rangers in the US telling us to chase the bears away - that's because to keep that fear of the humans. If they lose that fear they attack. That's why we've had man-eaters in the past (of course, that's partially an act of getting an easy meal as well). Also, the documentary makers are experts of the wildlife and know how to predict animal behaviour and they follow guidelines which help them not to threaten or challenge the animals and hence they are not attacked!
Reply:Lions can be mauled by elephants and rinos, and eaten by crocodiles.
Reply:Lions are hunted and killed by a great animal called HUMAN. Lions kill their prey for food ,they don't kill photographers provided they take proper care.
Reply:Elephants, hippos, rhinos, hyenas, crocodiles, water buffalo and packs of domestic dogs have all been known to kill lions,
Reply:a croc or a alligator can kill and eat a lion so can a bow or a anaconda hienas are known to kill lions as well
Reply:Humans with guns kill lions all the time. I remember Mufasa telling Simba that they were on the top of the food chain. The lion eats the antelope who feeds on grass but when the lions die their bodies feed the grass and the antelope eats the grass so we are all connected in the great circle of life. Thinguyanahinguyanamada...
Reply:as someone has no doubt put it, the only beast that is greater than a lion and therefore could hunt and kill it is M A N...
Reply:Man would be the most likely killer, other than that, virus and other bacteria could kill them too.
Reply:the lion can be killed by a group of hyenas or the wild dogs etc
Reply:Lions are lucky that the Grizzly bear doesn't exist in their natural habitat. In the 1800s, African lions were brought to California to fight the griz in pit fights (much like the Romans did) and it almost always ended in the lions death very quickly. Go Griz!
Reply:man is the most voracious killer of lions as well as every other creature on this planet

Out all the lions which is the biggest one and how much it weigh. and the same thing with the tigers.?

are this are the bigest and badest cats?

Out all the lions which is the biggest one and how much it weigh. and the same thing with the tigers.?
the biggest subspecies of lions is Panthera leo leo, or the Barbary lion, now extinct in the wild unfortunately..

the largest tiger subspecies is Panthera tigris altaica, or the Siberian tiger (also called the Amur tiger).

out of the two, the Siberian tiger in the largest, individuals may weigh 180-300 kg; the Barbary lion: 100-180..

Pride of lions, murder of crows, flock of birds what is the collective noun for Tigers? Thanks in advance Chas

Tigers aren't pack/herd/or group animals; they are meant to be solitary. I suppose you could try what the other person said; ambush or streak. Good Luck.

PS if you need anymore go to the website below

Reply:I think that eating your fellow vegetarian animals is not particularly helpful to the vegetarian cause (though I believe that eating any kind of animal is something of a violation of vegetarian rules). After all, these animals have been much more saintly than yourself over all the years of their short life, not only refusing to eat other animals, but also refusing to include humans in their diet, and what do you do to repay them? You eat them! I think you'd do better to only eat carnivorous animals, such as tigers and lions, who probably deserve to be eaten rather more.

Reply:no, not really. being a vegetarian means that you eat NO meat. none at all. so, no you are not a vegetarian.
Reply:No one should eat tigers since they are an endangered species but that hardly makes you a vegetarian.
Reply:as far as I am concerned I don't eat animals because they are too god's children as we are. I consider them to be my brothers and sisters. As it is our duty to take care of our younger brothers and sister why shouldn't we take care of those animals which people always want to hurt or kill. now as far as your question is concerned a tiger eats an animal because he can't eat vegetables or grass as other vegetarian animals. And that is the reason why he is "TIGER". same in case of other carnivorous animals. but in case of we humans we can live even if we eat vegeterian food. we are not going to die if we dont eat non-veg food. And that is what your point of view should be while becoming a vegeterian. Hence whether it is a tiger or a cow, you have no right to eat anyone of them.

Why are lions sometimes referred to as 'King of the Beasts,' instead of tigers?

I'm confused. Nobody ever refers to lions as tigers, nor should they.

Lions are considered the king of beasts not because they are any stronger, faster, or more agile than other great cats. They aren't. They're the king of beasts because of the way they carry themselves and the great majestic look of their mane. The mane looks like mantle like kings of old once wore.

Why are lions sometimes referred to as 'King of the Beasts,' instead of tigers?
Ok, one thing to note, lions and tigers are not the same animal. Yes, they are both felines, but they aren't exactly the same, so nobody has the right to call them "tigers".

I'm not a particular fan of lions, but I'll answer your question as reasonably as I can: We call them the kings of beast mostly because of their giant mane. The way that it frames their face gives off a somewhat majestic vibe. also, their roar is deafaning, so it kind of reminds some people of an angry king, trying his best to gain more and more power through the harshness of his voice. another thing that may help you is the fact that their fur has a golden highlight. I suppose it shines off in matter of riches.
Reply:Because a pride of lions is more powerful than a single tiger. When you have 9, even 12 lions and lionesses all working together, teamwork, then you have one of the most powerful animal forces that are predators on land. Besides, a tiger is solitary so whom would it rule over? He'd have no subjects.
Reply:I agree, I think it's all about the MANE!
Reply:because they look most scary
Reply:Lions and tigers and bears! Oh my!

I agree with the first answer and updated this to find it again to vote for best answer!

Why are lions, and not tigers, referred to as 'King of the Beasts'?

Because Disney made the Lion King, of course. It isn't called the Tiger King! *rolls his eyes*
Reply:because they sleep 22 hrs a day and want other to do things for them(like a king) ,but they r strong and will win a fight if they get into one.

but i feel tigers should be the KING of the beasts
Reply:they have hair around their head just like a crown + they are big, strong and most of the time don't do nothing but eat and sleep (the females do all the hunting).

Hope this helps!!
Reply:because they sleep more than 20 hours but not 24 and the tigers sleep like ........just like us that's why they like to call the loin the king because he basically is one sleeping like one

I mean all around the world, not just the states. Does anybody know FOR SURE where moutain lions are found?

Thanks!

Does anybody know FOR SURE where mountain lions are found? ASAP, please!?
I'm going to answer for Puma (Felis) concolor (just in case your idea of a mountain lion differs from mine).

It is the most widespread large mammal in the Americas - from the tip of the Yukon in Canada to the Southern Andes in South America. It can survive in all kinds of habitats - from mountains to deserts to swamps. It was extirpated (locally extinct) in the Eastern U.S. except for the tip of Florida due to overhunting, but I think there are reintroduction programs in the works now. That's probably why you are getting "mixed" information from different web sites.

Wikipedia has a good Americas (north and south) map: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cougar

Here's a more detailed U.S. map - showing some of the reintroduction areas:

http://www.naturealmanac.com/cougars/cou...
Reply:I know for sure mountain lion live in the catalina mountains in southern arizona, (Tucson area.)
Reply:north america ,mexico and central america .also try the keywords puma and moutain lion
Reply:The Cougar has the largest range of any wild cat in the Americas, and spans 110 degrees of latitude, from northern Yukon in Canada to the southern Andes. This is also the largest range of any land animal in the New World. It is one of only three cat species, along with the Bobcat and Canadian Lynx, endemic to Canada.[15] Its wide distribution stems from its adaptability to virtually every habitat type: it is found in all forest types as well as in lowland and mountainous deserts. Studies show that the Cougar prefers regions with dense underbrush, but can live with little vegetation in open areas.[2] Its preferred habitats include precipitous canyons, escarpments, rim rocks, and dense brush.[22]

The Cougar was extirpated across much of its eastern North American range, with the exception of Florida, in the two centuries after European colonization and faced grave threats in the remainder. Currently, it ranges across most western American states, the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, and the Canadian Yukon Territory. There have been widely-debated reports of possible recolonization of eastern North America.[32] DNA evidence has suggested its presence in eastern North America,[33] while a consolidated map of Cougar sightings shows numerous reports, from the mid-western Great Plains through to Eastern Canada.[34] The only unequivocally known eastern population is the Florida Panther, which is critically endangered.

South of the Rio Grande, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) lists the cat in every Central and South American country except Costa Rica and Panama.[2] While specific state and provincial statistics are often available in North America, much less is known about the cat in its southern range.[35]

The Cougar's total breeding population is estimated at less than 50,000 by the IUCN, with a declining trend.[2] U.S. state-level statistics are often more optimistic, suggesting Cougar populations have rebounded. In Oregon, a healthy population of 5,000 was reported in 2006, exceeding a target of 3,000.[36] California has actively sought to protect the cat and a similar number of cougars has been suggested, between 4,000 and 6,000.[37]

Universal Facts shows "A swift or ambush of tigers" [universal]

What is a family of tigers called? Is it pack or pride like lions?
I have recently returned from Africa. The guide we in the jungle told us that they were called a load... His exact words as I remember was "to run like F*ck" cos there was a load of Tigers coming...
Reply:Tigers are solitary animals
Reply:As with many of the collective names for certain

kinds of animals, no one really uses a lot of these

words. There was a fad for inventing such words

in Europe at one time, and the more fanciful and

peculiar the better. There is no reason to have a

collective word for tigers because, as several of

the answers have pointed out, tigers are primarily

solitary animals. They come together briefly to

mate, but the only groups of tigers you would see

are a mother with her young, and there are rarely

more than two or three of these by the time they

are grown.
Reply:A pride is the collective noun for lions (a family of lions is just a family).

The collective noun for tigers is an ambush.
Reply:a bunch

actually if I see a bunch of tigers, I wouldn't hang around long enough to wonder what to call them!!!!!
Reply:They are just referred to as mother and cubs because they separate at around 2 years and live solitary lives.
Reply:Actually tigers normally only get together to mate. The tigeress may keep cubs with her for 2 years but then it's, "Out you go Bud.". They don't form packs or prides like some large predators.

Michael
Reply:Neither...it is an AMBUSH of tigers. Tigers are more solitary than lions or wolves
Reply:a group of tigers is called an ambush a group of lions a pride

I stronglhy feel that Sri Lanka will come back strongly and win against Bangladesh comfortably.

I think now you got your answer..

Well about animals..........
Reply:This is a very tough ask for Bangladeshis to score 147 against Vaas and co. Bangladeshis have this habit of upsetting some big team in the beginning of a tournament but then they gradually get down to their original status which , I am sorry to say, is not admirable. At the moment Bangladesh 39/4 and to the best of my knowledge of cricket they have no chance of winning the game as their best batsmen are back in the dressing room.
Reply:Yeah.
Reply:they will but that will be hard work
Reply:they did it earlier in ODIs and with a good team they can do it again. besides that, most of their upsets are when they chased targets, n today they're doing the same.

Get that 'ANIMAL ZOO' out of cricket section.

Edit -

I am glad that you haven't abused me. I was actually hoping for that. Well see, you are right that cricket commentators do give those 'Animal names' to cricketers but man don't you think that we should just use the word 'Man' for our cricketers.

Tell me one thing. Are 'MEN' inferior to tigers %26amp; lions in any way ?

Unfortunately my countrymen have no love for those poor animals. We are killing our own tigers, lion %26amp; leopards every day. So honestly i don't think people in my country really love animals. Our so called 'National Animal' is 'Tiger' which is a joke for me because we are killing them everyday.

Are there such things as Female Lions? Or are they Female Tigers?

Lions and Tigers are 2 separate species. Every species of mammals have males and females- otherwise they couldn't reproduce. You need to read some basic biology books my friend!

Are there such things as Female Lions? Or are they Female Tigers?
Sophie is right. Lions and Tigers are two completely seperate species. A female Lion is called a Lioness, and a female Tiger is called a Tigeress.
Reply:ye there are female lions. they're the ones without the manes that do all the hunting.
Reply:a female lion is called a lioness. They look like lions but have no mane, just like a giant cat. Tigers are totally different animals.
Reply:lioness is the female lion. I'm not sure what a female tiger is called
Reply:tiger and lions are a totally different species, hence the "Liger" which is a tiger and a lion mix. Tigers have the stripes, lions don't. . . . It's Tigger Verses Simba! lol
Reply:LIons and Tigers are two different species...
Reply:Yes, a lioness is a female lion. I believe a female tiger is called a tigress.

If there weren't any female lions, how would baby lion cubs be born?
Reply:For your sake, I hope you're about 7 years old.

Or severely mentally challenged.

PS - Lions and tigers are different SPECIES.

News Flash.. African Lions Mauld by Royal Bengali Tigers. Can Ya believe it?

Do you think Hansi Cronye's team was far more beter than Gream Smith's team?

Please..Give at least one reason.

News Flash.. African Lions Mauld by Royal Bengali Tigers. Can Ya believe it?
ya croni'e team was better in the sense that it was a balanced team with excellent BOWLING G AND BATTING, unlike today's where we have crappy bowling and good batting.... that being said, cronie's team dominated every other team besides the only team that they needed to beat to win a wcup, yup u guessed it: the Aussies. And today's team does have the capability of beating the Aussies and they are less of a choker than in the past... however their bowlers better improve or else they can kiss the wcup trophy good bye.
Reply:AAAAHHHHHHAHAHAHA!!! Neither, they're both as crap as each other. The SAffers can't handle pressure and it's ajoke that the ICC have them ranked at No. 1, we (aussies) destroyed them and now they've lost to bangladesh!! SAf are a truly feeble team on the BIG STAGE!
Reply:ya hansi crnje's team was beter.
Reply:As an Aussie I'm glad to see Bangladesh beat S.A but i don't think this will make much difference to the final 4 which will be Australia,S.A,New Zealand and S.L , S.A are still a good enough side to win the world cup besides this loss, and for us Aussies we need to be at the top of our game to beat any of the other 3 sides when it comes to the finals.
Reply:The current team is better (wish Alan Donald was in it). The batting has more depth and fielding is top class.

Today's loss to Bangladesh may have been avoided if SA would have batted first. Sa did win the toss. Gream what were you thinking? Slow pitch + leg spinners = bat first.

On the bright side, SA did not lose points to NZ, Eng or WI. It was Bangladesh. So if SA wins at least 2/3 remaining games, they will be in the semis.
Reply:cronye had best SA team

Stealhy, sneaky Tigers vs Roaring charging Lions.....? who will win....?

The tigers.

Stealhy, sneaky Tigers vs Roaring charging Lions.....? who will win....?
The Tigers were cats today and as such India were thrashed by Sri Lanka convincingly.
Reply:Both breeds come from the same linage, felines. Both can hear something sneaking anywhere. The strength of a lion is more than a tiger's, as a tiger may have a little more speed than a lion. That's to aid the tiger to flee the lion when the tiger gets swatted by a huge pawed right cross. Lion wins.

Do lions eat other cats (e.g. domestic cats, cheetahs, tigers, etc.) or other lions for that matter?

Overall lions do kill many other cats, but more often than not they do not actually eat them. They are known to eat other felines such as cheetahs, leopards and other African cats... it just does not happen too often.

Lions right now are actually causing a huge problem with cheetahs. Prides have been hunting down and killing mass amounts of cubs and at times the mother as well. One of the problems is the cheetahs really have no where to hide, not to mention they cannot climb trees (talking straight up) and they are not able to defend against such a large cat. More often than not when a lion moves in the mother cat will hide the cubs the best she can, try to drive the lion to another location and hope for the best. If memory serves more than half of the cheetah cubs out there never make it past the age of 6 months. Lions are a huge part of that problem.

With an animal like a leopard the kill is a bit tougher. Leopards are a very aggressive cat and will not back down from a fight as fast as a cheetah. They are also excellent climbers and as long as their is a good tree close by they can get away rather fast. Not too many leopards are lost to lions each year, but it does happen (with cubs, old or sick/injured leopards).

Lions killing lions is also a nasty story. It happens all the time, mainly for two reasons. The first being when males get into fights over females, the second is a bit more sad. When a new male takes over a pride the first thing he will do is kill ALL the cubs in the group. This will force the females back into cycle so he can breed with them and pass on his DNA. A few of the cubs might be eaten, but the majority are left for other animals such as hyenas, jackels, vultures, etc.

Do lions eat other cats (e.g. domestic cats, cheetahs, tigers, etc.) or other lions for that matter?
Well, tigers and lions would never come in contact with each other...nor would they be likely to come in contact with domestic cats. Tigers are found in Asia and Lions in Africa. Cheetahs are found in Africa...but lions do not hunt cheetahs. Cheetahs and Leopards steer clear of lions whenever they could..but they are not hunted by lions...predators do not hunt predators..but can have confrontations and fights sometimes. In a controlled situation with these animals together outside of nature...I am sure a lion would easily kill and eat another cat.
Reply:they would if they're hungry...and also that they have their territories so, cross the border and ur food...
Reply:Yes, lions will definitely eat other cats if given a chance.

Cheetahs in particular are often in danger from lions that share the same territory.

A little kitty cat would barely be a snack for lion.
Reply:They are frequently the top predator, or a niche predator in their neighborhood, so no.

But a cat could conceivably eat another. But they are more likely to fight or mate, or stay away from each other.

Lions are in Africa, tigers in India.
Reply:yes just like saber tooth cats did circa 4,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 ago
Reply:Yes, a lion will eat other cats, Felis spp. Couple years ago nature documentary on PBS about a pride of African lions showed this. Not only that, but male lions kill cubs of other lion prides.

http://www.tigerhomes.org/animal/lions.c...

"There are cases on record of lions killing leopards who happen upon them, and the same is true of cheetahs and hyenas."

http://www.lioncentral.com/noframes/mane...
Reply:Yeah they do, lions have like families called prides. Males from other prides will kill each other and "claim" the females.
Reply:Lions sometimes eat other cats. Tigers live in Southern Asia and Cheetahs live in about the same part of Africa, but keep to themselves.

Lions mainly stick to their diet of zebra, giraffe, buffalo, gazelles and impala. However, if lions do find cheeta scraps left behind, it saves them a hunting trip, and they will dine on it.

The most shameful and pathetic detroit team?? That's about the only achievement they will ever be capable of??

Detroit Tigers fans - Have the Tigers finally surpassed the Lions as ....?
No. the Lions won't get this far. I live in Cardinal country. I think that Detroit underestimated the Cardinals. In other words, don't believe the hype.

(ps: I didn't think they'd win either.)
Reply:That's really sad that both of you consider the Tigers' season a fluke. If anyone had a fluke season it was the Cardinals. Padres should have beat them, Mets should have beat them, and Tigers should have as well.

But what's done is done we'll know who's season was a fluke next season. Report It

Reply:What are you talking about?? I'm not a Tiger fan,but I know a stupid question when I hear one. The Tigers had 12 straight losing seasons, and this season won 96 games, that's pretty damn good. They will be good for a long time. I like all these Card fans talking tough, let's see them not play for a week and then have to be at their best. They were lucky to catch the Tigers at the right time.

What exactly is shameful about the Tigers? That they went from a losing season to 96 wins and the World Series?

Hey, pal thanks for the thumbs down! I gave you one too! Why did I get one? For letting you know just how stupid your question was? You are making Cardinal fans look like morons.

I congratulate the cardinals they put up a good fight. Don't forget there is always next year so don't think you can down the spirit of the Detorit by making some stupid remark as that.

What does "Go Lions and take the Tigers with you" actually mean?

It means that for the majority of the last decade the Detroit Lions have been one of the most terrible franchises in all of football. Barring the last few years, the same can be said about the Tigers as well. It just means that they should both leave town and be rotten somewhere else.

What does "Go Lions and take the Tigers with you" actually mean?
IT MEANS DETROIT IS FULL OF LOSERS.
Reply:LOL, I'm from Michigan, it's because up until last year everyone kind of hated the Detroit Tigers MLB team because, well because they consistently sucked. The Detroit Lions have sucked for a long time too although they always have a huge fan base, kind of a under-dog thing

So it's just a funny cheer dissing both teams
Reply:LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Its a play on words. When someone uses a phrase such as "Go Lions", it typically has a positive connotation in that you are cheering your team on. In this sense, however, it is used in a derogatory way by stating that the Lions are not a good team and the fans would just as soon have them leave town and take the other sub-par franchise, the Tigers, with them.

Because God loves big p*ssies.

Reply:lol. The christians ask the "If humans evolved from apes them why are there still apes" question all of the time. It just shows you most of them(99.9999999) slept through science class because if they actually read a book it will tell you that like species shared a common ancestor.
Reply:Because they don't make yarn big enough for lions.

That's nowhere near the same as evolving from them SH1T FOR BRAINS!

LOL!
Reply:...........and dogs
Reply:That's my same theory about man coming from ape. Then why are there still apes. ha ha.

Nice to see someone thinks like me.
Reply:Domestic cats, tigers, leopards and lions all share a common ancestor. The domestic house cat is most closely related to the african wildcat, and was most probably first domesticated in Egypt some 5,000 years ago.
Reply:the only way one could see that you were being sarcastic was from reading your other questions. This one doesn't take you there, as you can see from everyone else who responded...
Reply:House cats don't directly descend from these larger cats, but rather they share a common ancestor. Some cats evolved into smaller species perhaps, for instance, because where they lived food was scarce and smaller creatures faired better than larger ones. Some grew larger because food was abundant and there were little or no predators where they lived.

The question, although meant in humor, is a case of false logic. It presumes that evolution requires the extinction of the parent species and that the parent species still exists, thus proving evolution false. One might use a similar logic to argue that we can't have descended from our grandmother because she's still alive.
Reply:Housecats cant kill a Wildebeast......

Shanti
Reply:Actually, house cats did not evolve from big cats. Big cats and house cats both evolved from a smaller wild cat. The big cats became bigger and the house cats were domesticated. They were first domesticated by the Egyptians.
Reply:Because lions and tigers still have a small place in the world were they are more successful at reproducing then house cats.
Reply:There used to live big house cats long time ago.
Reply:If you thought about it for a second, you would know that there are many types of medium size cats such as the lynx and bobcat, evoultion branches out, when a certain species is in an environment where is it more beneficial to be smaller, such as not enough large prey food sources, they slowly adapt over time to suit their environment.

When I was still blinded by the jesus crew and someone asked that question in relation to apes, it STILL got on my nerves.

It could quite possibly be the most ignorant unintelligent retort creationists ever came up with.
Reply:evolutionists cant explain that- the best they can come up with is that their cells got weaker or changed while others got stronger or stayed the same. its unexplainable- thats why having the Christian faith and understanding makes sense. its all explainable.

Reply:What do you think Jim Darwin had to put the animals into the ark??? God gave Noah the power, what kind of God do you think he is, he is the one who made the world, and he can't keep the animals quiet for a while. I hardly think that Noah went all over the world and selected the animals. They came to him.. Daniel came out of the lion's den without being eaten. Jesus raised the dead. We are not playing in the minor league as the primate people. God will bring to pass everything that he has promised and more.
Reply:in a work of fiction you can do anything you want.
Reply:Simple, God led the aniamls to Noah and the Ark. God was much more interactive back then and could make aniamal head to a single location and survive without distroying each other, Maybe why so many anaimals hibermate now.
Reply:It has been suggested that Noah took infant animals. If that is the case, he must have taken them when they were old enough to survive without their mother's milk. At any rate, an infant tiger would be manageable (sort of!!) for the length of time they were trapped on the ark. Noah may have had his hands full, but he had some help from his three grown sons.

Reply:It is understandable that this question might arise, for as things stand now many animals do kill one another for food. But please note that this is as things stand now. Is there anyone on the earth who can say from personal observation how these animals acted six thousand years ago?

Throughout the earth humans kill animals and eat their flesh. But does man’s ability to chew and digest meat prove that all men eat meat or that men have always eaten meat? No, for God’s Word, the oldest and most reliable history of mankind, shows that originally Jehovah gave man “all vegetation bearing seed” and “every tree on which there is the a fruit of a tree bearing seed” as food. It was not until over sixteen hundred years later that God permitted a change of diet for man, allowing him to hunt animals for food.—Gen. 1:29; 9:2, 3.

We must keep in mind that scientists are limited in their knowledge. Even if a man is an authority in some field of animal life, he does not know all there is to know about an animal as it now lives, to say nothing about how it lived thousands of years in the past. T hose who are humble and sincere admit this. The very fact that scientists have different opinions proves the point.

For instance, the question came up as to whether cobras can hear sounds. On November 27, 1968, an Associate Curator of Reptiles at one of the large zoological gardens in the United States wrote: “All snakes are unable to hear sounds; this also includes the Cobra.” That seems quite final. However, on the very same day the Curator and Chairman of the Department of Herpetology at the American Museum of Natural History explained: “It has been generally assumed . . . that snakes are deaf to air-borne sounds. Recent evidence has it, though, that some snakes can hear low-pitched sounds. How this relates to the cobra problem is uncertain. The weight of evidence is still in favor of the theory that it is movement rather than sound that influences the cobras, but the matter certainly is not closed.”

The Bible long ago indicated that the cobra hears the “voice of charmers,” but could refuse to listen just as a human can refuse to hear. (Psalms 58:4, 5) Would it be wise to reject what the Bible says just because some scientists think the facts to be otherwise? The above quotations show that the answer is, No. Similarly, that certain current evidence does not seem to support what the Bible says about animal life in the past should not cause one to reject God’s inspired Word.

Another thing, is one justified in concluding that the way an animal uses its body today is the only possible way? As an example, a tiger uses its fangs and claws to catch, kill and tear apart other animals. Yet, could not these same fangs and claws be used in tearing apart heavy vegetation and ripping off husks and shells?

‘But what about poisonous snakes?’ someone may ask. Animal poisons might appear to be just for killing or protection, but are they? In “Animal Poisoners” H. Munro Fox wrote: “In some cases we know that poisons play a role in the functioning of the body of the animal which manufactures them. In many instances this may be the real raison d’être [reason for existence] of the venoms, quite apart from any protective value. The poisonous spittle of snakes, for example, has work to do in the digestion of the snake’s food.” Another illustration is a certain green marine worm that is partly covered with a poisonous slime. Is this poison to protect it from being eaten? It might seem so. Yet if the young of this worm settle on this slime, the poison changes them into microscopic males instead of the large females they would have developed into if they settled on the sea floor.

It is true that hundreds or even thousands of problem cases might be brought up, ones that apparently indicate that animals always killed one another, that this is necessary for the “balance of nature.” But should our lack of complete knowledge of God’s creation cause us to lose faith in him and his Word? Should we let questions about preying animals prey on us?

The Bible explains that in the paradise in Eden God gave to “every wild beast of the earth and to every flying creature of the heavens . . . all green vegetation for food.” (Genesis 1:30.)

Later all of the basic kinds of land animals lived in Noah’s ark for a whole year without devouring one another. And evidently drawing on the conditions that existed in Eden and that will be restored in the future, God’s Word says: “The cow and the bear themselves will feed; together their young ones will lie down. And even the lion will eat straw just like the bull. And the sucking child will certainly play upon the hole of the cobra . . . They will not do any harm or cause any ruin in all my holy mountain.”—Isa. 11:7-9.

Surely the grand Creator who made the heavens and all that is in them, who arranged the perfect balance and order of the stars and who knows how harmony and peace existed in Eden, can restore paradise conditions. Bringing about a “balance of nature” wherein animals do not kill one another is not beyond His ability, is it? So, let us look forward to that time with confidence and trust.

Certainly, Almighty God has the power over His creation, including the animals, to make sure that no harm comes to any of them nor to humans. One example of this can be found in the Bible in regards to Daniel. God stopped the mouths of the lions when he was thrown into the lion's pit. (Daniel 6:22; please see also Hebrews 11:33.)

How close are house cats related to lions and/or tigers ?

# Phylum

# Order

# Suborder

# Family

# Genus

# Species

Remember from school? Cats (house) and Cats (Big and Circus) and everycat inbetween are all in the same Family, Felidae. Then they start to differ. The house cats are in Genus Felius. the Lions and Tigers in Genus Panthera.

The small cats do not roar, and the big cats do. It has to do with the way the bones in their thorats are arranged.

The small cats are more closely related to each other than they are to the Big cats. But all cats are more closly related to each other than they are to weasels.

How close are house cats related to lions and/or tigers ?
completly related species.. :)

all cats are cats

just like all humans are humans..

we just have different types :)
Reply:Have a look at these articles and compare the details -

- on domestic cats - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat

- on wild cats, which our cats are descended from -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_cat

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_wil...

- notice how they're the same species - Felis silvestris.

Tigers and lions are both a separate genus and species -

Panthera tigris - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger

Panthera leo - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion

So tigers and lions are the same genus - more closely related to each other than to the cat family, Felis.

But our domestic cats are closely related to wild cats!

Actually, you can read more about the path of life', which shows how all animals, from bacteria to mammals including humans, are related to each other, in Richard Dawkin's excellent book, "The Ancestor's Tale" -

Of the folllowing 3 animals african lions crocodiles and tigers which is most likley to be a man-eater?

As in more than the other 2.

Of the folllowing 3 animals african lions crocodiles and tigers which is most likley to be a man-eater?
crocodiles kill far more people every year than lions and tigers combined. big cats normally avoid human beings unless they are unable to capture other prey due to age or injury. only in rare instances do big cats become accustomed to man eating as a normal method of feeding. crocodiles on the other hand make no distinction whatever regarding what they feed on. if they are hungry and an animal they can overpower comes to water, they will strike. in many African watercourses it is just taken as a fact of life that crocodiles above a certain size have eaten humans as food. the only thing that kills more people in Africa are hippos and venomous snakes.
Reply:Crocs will eat any meat including man,but they will not hunt men, tigers on the other hand when they find out men are easy prey they will hunt them.
Reply:My guess would be the tigers. The other two are man eaters too, but tigers can be quite vicious to run from...
Reply:tigers
Reply:Tigers in India have the most recorded attacks and killing of humans than the other two.
Reply:Croc's by a mile!

The big cats generally don't hunt man,

but Croc's will grab anything that moves near the water.

Reply:Tigers probably have more potential to be a decent team in the next few years, but the lions might have a better chance to be successful quickly considering the division is terrible, espeically if the bears relapse like the did the last time they had a good season.
Reply:Tigers.

Lions have been lambs for years thanks to Joey Harrington's failure to develop.

The Lions and the Tigers suffer from hairball like the house cats?

All cats are self cleaning. Which is where the hairballs come from. But the big cats have the added problem of the hair from the zookeepers they've eaten!

The Lions and the Tigers suffer from hairball like the house cats?
They do clean each other like house cats but I think the type of hair on big cats is different to house cats and may this stops them getting hair balls .......?
Reply:That's a cool question! :D I actually think they do get them, because I'm sure they bathe themselves just like house cats do, and that's usually how cats get hair balls.

I don't know for sure though so try calling a zoo or somebody else that is familiar with big cats! :)
Reply:and let's not forget those mean old hunters that get their just deserts if and when they get eaten, phil8656
Reply:I'm not at all sure..If you really need to know, you might find it on the internet, or call a zoo and ask them.. I sort of doubt that the large cats would be likely to have that, but it's an interesting question.. :-)

Why do the pistons and the red wings lead their leagues in wins, but the tigers and lions can't win at all?

75% Ownership, %25 Managament/Front office.

The Football Lions are arguably the laughing stock of the league right now. You can't switch coaches and systems and QB's every few years and expect anything to get rolling. sysAlso they haven't picked a real impact player in the draft since Barry Sanders.

As for the Baseball Lions, they play in a tough division. It seems like when they pick up three free agents in a year, two of them have horrible seasons. Also their farm system is a joke, so they don't have a pool of prospects to trade or promote, so they have to rely on free agency, which is iffy in baseball.

The Pistons recent resurgence can be directly attributed to Joe Dumars retiring from playing basketball and became as good of a front office man as I've seen in the past 20 years.

The Grant Hill for Ben Wallace and Chucky Atkins deal had alot to do with it, as well as the FA acquisition of Chauncey Billups. The hiring of Larry Brown as Head Coach was the final piece to their puzzle.

Red Wings? Yzerman, Yzerman, and Yzerman. Well, maybe a little Bowman, Hasek and Hull in there for flavor.

Why do the pistons and the red wings lead their leagues in wins, but the tigers and lions can't win at all?
The owner of the Detroit Piston's is the owner of the Tampa Bay Lighting. Managment is the reason, Millen has no clue what he is doing.
Reply:b/c the tigers and lions suck and the pistons and red wings rock!
Reply:Because the teams that play outdoors have to worry about getting shot.

Just kidding. Tigers will be fine this year. They won't win the division, but they'll be well out of the cellar for a change.

Why is india the only country in the world having both tigers and lions at the same time but others hav either

They inhabit very different kinds of forest. African lions range over dry scrubland while Asiatic lions ranged over Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Iran and into the arid forest regions of India. Tigers inhabit forested areas than provide a different cover for stalking. If they occupied similar territory they would be in conflict for prey. Most species adapt to exploit niches rather than face the loss of fitness from direct confrontation. The tiger may have arisen in Asia as a subspecies of the lion occupying differing habitats where the coloration shifts were selected for.

All four of the Panthera species descend from the spotted Lynx-like Ur-cat. All the related big cats retain the spotting at least as juveniles. Tigers spots became elongated to blend with heavy shadows of the forest while lions lost their adult spots to blend with open scrub forest grass covers. These two remain so closely related their skeletons are nearly indistinguishable.

Why is india the only country in the world having both tigers and lions at the same time but others hav either
india has only 300 lions - the asiatic lions. India have bengal tigers. The closest tigers and lions are 160km far apart. They just are. its like sayin why is it that why is Africa the only place where zebras and lions live.
Reply:The tigers died off in Africa.

Leave the lions out and I would guess it would happen in the spring when the playoff of the winter sports and baseball are both going on.

So far this year it has happened on the 11th and 16th of April. Plus the May 5th you mentioned.

Is it true that ligers and tigons and tamer then tigers and lions?

I have always thought if both were hand raised it would be the same but it seems like ligers are tamer and more willing to be with humans

Is it true that ligers and tigons and tamer then tigers and lions?
Why would they be tamer, they are still wild animals.
Reply:Tigers are larger and more adventurous They are solitary, and I think smarter too. As far as being more willing to be with humans, there are more tigers in shows like Siegfried and Roy. so I'd go with that.

I have heard that there are witnesses that saw them, also they had slingshots and they have not helped the police's investigation at all . I wonder if the Zoo should be suing them.

Do you think the boys were Taunting the Tigers and Lions?
I have wondered about the circumstances right from the start! Most cases of animal aggression are caused by outside forces! Animals that are used to being around humans very seldomly attack without provocation*

Do big cats i.e. tigers and lions also purr?

Also how do they purr

Do big cats i.e. tigers and lions also purr?
I worked with lions, tigers, leopards and cougars at a big cat rescue for over 7 years. The big cats (all of the above listed except for the cougar, or mountain lion) CANNOT purr. They are in the family Panthera. They roar and cannot purr. They do make a lot of other vocalizations. Lions rumble, moan, huff, whine, roar, growl, snarl and when they are little cubs they bleat just like a goat. Tigers make the same noises and more. Tigers also have a special vocalization called a chuff or a poof. They expel breaths rapidly and it sounds a bit like a person doing a raspberry except deeper and slower. Leopards make less vocalizations but do grunt a lot. Cougars, or mountain lions, are in the family Felidae, which is the same family as the common house cat. They do purr, and make a lot of other sounds including whistling and meowing, although it sounds a lot different from a housecat. I have seen a lot of documentaries and tv shows (including Disney's The Lion King) that show lions, tigers and leopards purring, but this is just added in sounds. They are physically incapable of purring. I posted a video of our lions roaring, and snarling on Youtube under my name tanilioness. If I can find one of our cougars purring I'll put that up soon.
Reply:yes ...the same way as domestic cats
Reply:yes they do purr and as for how..scientist have been studying that for years and still don't have a definitive answer yet

oh and cheetahs are not really cats, genetically they are closer to dogs than cats but they are not dogs either..cheetahs are cheetahs

Taxonomy can be determined in many different ways. Biochemically based on blood proteins, morphologically, or using paleontologic evidence, to name a few. Hence, there is rarely an answer that is agreed upon by systematists. It is agreed that the cheetah falls into its own genus Acinonyn within the felids, and it is the only member of this genus. There are two other genera in the family, Panthera and Felis. Panthera includes the lion, tiger, leopard and jaguar, while Felis includes the domestic cats, the small wild cats and the cougar.

Purring is a unique vocal feature in the domestic cat. However, other species in the Felidae family also purr: Bobcat, Cheetah, Eurasian Lynx, Puma, and Wild Cat (Complete list in Peters, 2002). Although some big cats like lions exhibit a purr-like sound, studies show that the Patherinae subfamily: Lion, Leopard, Jaguar, Tiger, Snow Leopard, and Clouded Leopard do not exhibit true purring (Peters, 2002).”

It was once thought that the purr was produced from blood surging through the inferior vena cava, but as research continues it seems that the intrinsic (internal) laryngeal muscles are the likely source for the purr. Moreover, there is an absence of purring in a cat with laryngeal paralysis. The laryngeal muscles are responsible for the opening and closing of the glottis (space between the vocal chords), which results in a separation of the vocal chords, and thus the purr sound. Studies have shown, that the movement of the laryngeal muscles is signaled from a unique “neural oscillator” (Frazer-Sisson, Rice, and Peters, 1991 %26amp; Remmers and Gautier, 1972) in the cat’s brain.
Reply:yes they do.
Reply:No they don't, They lack the gland required.
Reply:I believe they do, but I have never been that close to find out.
Reply:Yes they do. Same as a house cat only louder.
Reply:The tiger is the only feline that doesn't purr.

As to how cats purr, that is still something of a mystery. The most likely explanation is that they expand and contract their diaphragm muscles which causes their vocal cords to vibrate.
Reply:Cats are divided into two groups: those that 'purr' and those that 'roar.' Obviously, tigers and lions fall into the latter group.
Reply:No, big cats roar, small and medium cats purr. The mechanism that allows purring won't allow roaring. The only exception to the 'big cat can't purr' is the cheetah and mountain lion (they're closely related actually), those two can purr.
Reply:The only big cat that can purr in the same way as the domestic cat is the cheetah. Interestingly enough, big cats like lions and tigers who roar, can only purr when breathing out.
Reply:No i dont think they can
Reply:I don't want to get close enough to find out
Reply:Yes the big cats also purr. Nobody really knows how they purr but the consensus is it has something to do with their voice boxes vibrating.
Reply:Someone's put a lot of "thumbs down" to the answers that say they do purr, but I read just the other day that they do purr, but only when they breathe out, unlike domestic cats that can purr when breathing in and out.
Reply:There are lots of members of the cat family.. Generally those that roar don't purr and vice versa.. . So lions roar, and they can't purr.. Cheetahs, while big, purr but do not roar (they actually "chirp").

Cheetahs are a member of the cat family. THis has never been in dispute.. The only thing that makes them more like dogs than cats is their claws are not retractable.. This is an adaptatoin to their method of hunting (like cleats on a track shoe, their claws help them run faster)..
Reply:tigers and lions purr when they're content (happy)

the purr comes from vibrations in their vocal cord (or voice box)
Reply:Yes, they do. All large cats, which are called "felidae". I read in National Geographic that this is a behavior that begins when they are feeding on their mother's milk.

Are cats like little tigers and lions?

Genetically, they are very much alike. If you didn't know, domestic cats are ancestors/relatives of the big wild cats. They have the same predatory instincts, emotional attachment to their kitty families, etc. They are much more alike than different.

One of the biggest differences is that domestic cats are less aggressive. Sure, if you dangle something small and moving in front of them, they have the instinctual urge to chase it. Or if they see a squirrel out in the yard, they'll want to hunt it. But they are very loving when it comes to people and other pets. There is a more advanced emotional dynamic for them whereas the bigger cats are equally hunters as they are social animals and will more likely kill than befriend.

Domestic cats evolved to be more tame and friendly, however, it wasn't solely a forced trait. In the right conditions, a wild cat can befriend an unlikely match.

Animal Planet had a special on a lioness who was separated from her pride. Because they rely so greatly on their prides for social reasons, the lioness was lost. She came across a baby oryx calf and took on a maternal role. It was obvious that she was fighting the urge to hunt it, but her attachment to it took over.

See the link below for more on that.

Overall, YES, wild cats and domestic cats are very much alike. There are very few ways in which they are different and even those ways are not completely concrete, as seen by this news story.

Reply:Yes. Cats, lions, tigers and other felines all belong to a family called "Felidae". The members of this family generally look the same but vary in size, colour, etc. Sometimes lions, tigers, and other larger felines are referred to as big cats.
