Why are so many top contributors Q&A private? Are they protecting themselves from trolls and lions and tigers.

and bears, oh my! Or are they protecting their many identities?

Why are so many top contributors Q%26amp;A private? Are they protecting themselves from trolls and lions and tigers.
I've wondered the same thing myself. It's like "hey were top contibutors but it's none of your business!!" Whatever!
Reply:It's all about the trolls. Those guys come out from under bridges and there's no telling when they'll jump out. Anyways, I hide mine cause I got some weird emails but I'm not a top contributor anymore :(
Reply:Probably because they tend to lie alot and don't want people tracking them down and debunking their question/answers.
Reply:don't forget the psychotic, the paranoid and the rats.

never judge a man until you've walked a mile in his moccassins.
Reply:I find I get less violations this way. You can draw you own conclusions as to why.
Reply:You're being kind in referring to them as contributors. They contribute nothing when they allow no form of rebuttal from those that disagree with them..
Reply:If someone adds you as a contact, they will be able to view your Q%26amp;A, regardless if it is set private....
Reply:You can post private answers and questions? I've never heard of that, doesn't that defeat the entire purpose of answers.yahoo.com?

I'd appreciate if someone could explain what private Q%26amp;A is all about, honestly never even heard of it before :)
Reply:I'm far from being a top contributor but know that since I've made my Q %26amp; A private that my 'violations' have gone down substantially. They're open to anyone who is a contact and I have contacts who range from extremely conservative to extremely liberal. We respect each other. Unfortunately, trolls display no respect.
Reply:I find many of them allow e-mail but will not let you go back and look over their Questions and answers .

Maybe they do not want you to see how they have flip flopped around .
Reply:protecting their multiple

IDs
Reply:When questions of me went to a vote I saw too much suspicious activity.I lost for example a vote to an answer that said"you better give up bucko,no one will help you".That answer got twelve votes.I researched my answer to help out with links and all.I believe I was negatively point gamed there and want to avoid that in the future. There is a group of users that deeply dislike me to put it mildly.

It has also allowed me to cut down on the numbers of people I blocked.I also very easily add a contact if they are serious members.I have one ID.

Maybe the answer is some do it for the trolls and others indeed to hide their multi's.Maybe both assumptions are correct.
Reply:because i prefer to have as few crazy internet stalkers as possible.
Reply:Mine aren't. I don't horse around.
Reply:Well, they might just have you blocked. That also shows their Q and A's as private.

I block known and suspected reportitrolls to protect my Q's and A's. But a lot of people make their Q's and A's private to prevent stalking and reporting. Some folks have had trolls go through their entire list of answers and flag every one. I can see their wanting to protect themselves.

Trolls do it because they don't want people to be able to see abusive questions and spam answers.

But when legitimate users make their Q's and A's private, the trolls win. What's the point of answering questions if people will never get to read your answers again after the question resolves?

You may have notices that I tend to give long answers. If somebody likes the way I write, I want them to have access to my stuff. It's a shame more people don't feel strongly enough about that to be willing to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous *******.
