Why are lions sometimes referred to as 'King of the Beasts,' instead of tigers?

I'm confused. Nobody ever refers to lions as tigers, nor should they.





Lions are considered the king of beasts not because they are any stronger, faster, or more agile than other great cats. They aren't. They're the king of beasts because of the way they carry themselves and the great majestic look of their mane. The mane looks like mantle like kings of old once wore.

Ok, one thing to note, lions and tigers are not the same animal. Yes, they are both felines, but they aren't exactly the same, so nobody has the right to call them "tigers".





I'm not a particular fan of lions, but I'll answer your question as reasonably as I can: We call them the kings of beast mostly because of their giant mane. The way that it frames their face gives off a somewhat majestic vibe. also, their roar is deafaning, so it kind of reminds some people of an angry king, trying his best to gain more and more power through the harshness of his voice. another thing that may help you is the fact that their fur has a golden highlight. I suppose it shines off in matter of riches.
Reply:Because a pride of lions is more powerful than a single tiger. When you have 9, even 12 lions and lionesses all working together, teamwork, then you have one of the most powerful animal forces that are predators on land. Besides, a tiger is solitary so whom would it rule over? He'd have no subjects.

Because Disney made the Lion King, of course. It isn't called the Tiger King! *rolls his eyes*
Reply:because they sleep 22 hrs a day and want other to do things for them(like a king) ,but they r strong and will win a fight if they get into one.


but i feel tigers should be the KING of the beasts
Reply:they have hair around their head just like a crown + they are big, strong and most of the time don't do nothing but eat and sleep (the females do all the hunting).
