Is it possible for a lion and tiger to have a cub?

Being from the same animal kingdom, why can not certain animal types such as lions and tigers have off spring. Also, are horses and zebras related?

Is it possible for a lion and tiger to have a cub?
Yes there has been successful breeding and the cub was called a liger. The liger is bigger than either the lion or tiger and was colored like a lion with faint tiger stripes. Its head looked more like a tiger's. I think it was unable to produce offspring of its own. See if you can find a picture of it on the internet or you could try to U-Tube it, bacause I saw it on the Discovery Channel a few months ago.
Reply:Yup.
Reply:thats mother nature. cats have the instinct. yes, horses and zebra's are related.
Reply:It can and has been done only in captivity though... Lions and Tigers live on different Continents...
Reply:Ligers and tigons are the infertile offspring of a forced breeding between a lion and tiger. Similar to a ginny or jenny being the infertile offspring of a horse and a donkey (mules).

Donkeys and zebras can also produce infertile offspring, and have done so in many zoos.

Most half-breeds are infertile, natures way of birth control. The child is born, but can never reproduce.
Reply:Yes. It's called a liger or a tigon.
Reply:I was laughing my a$$ off when I first read this question.. but I guess it does exist... Here this should be informative... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liger
Reply:It's been done. The result is a half a ton cat species call Liger.
