I was watching part of the White Sox- Tigers game and WGN did a survey on the biggest sports rivalry. Bears- Lions, Tigers- White Sox/Cubs, Bulls- Pistons, and Red Wings- Blackhawks.
The Red Wings- BlackHawks was voted #1 with 45% of the vote.
See, hockey fans DO like baseball!
So what rivalries do you think are the best in other cities? I vote Mets-Yankees( because of interleague play), followed by Islanders- Rangers in NYC.
Biggest Chicago- Detroit sports rivalry?
Bears/Lions on Thanksgiving is always fun.
Eagles/Cowboys
Flyers/Rags(Your word and now I use it in my daily lingo)
Sixers/Knicks
Phils/Mets
Are you a Yanks or Mets fan? This should be a fun season this year for the East title.
Reply:I don't pay attention to other sports so I only know about NHL rivalries. Currently, the Ottawa and Toronto rivalry is the fiercest, but it used to be Detroit and Colorado.
Reply:Aw that's easy man, it's the Wings-Hawks rivalry! Chicago sucks and Detroit rules for hockey and tomorrow Detroit's gonna kill the Blackhawks. I hate the Blackhawks.
From another Perspective, the Tigers-White Sox rivalry is pretty big too.
Here are the teams that I'd root for if I lived in the Midwest
NFL: Bears over Lions (however I'm a Steelers-Redskins fan)
NHL: Red Wings over the Blackhawks
NBA: Bulls over the Pistons (I hate the Pistions and I'm really a Celtics fan).
MLB: White Sox (NOT Cubs) over the Tigers (and I'm a Yankees fan really)
Yes the White Sox are my backup AL team, but I've been to Tiger Stadium before. I've also been to a Pistons game before, but they both suck.
Reply:I think alot of good rivalries form from either being in nearby cities or just from cities being in the same state. That allows the fans to make the drive easily over to the nearby city and root for their home team. I know the Bay Area has a nice rivalry with the A's vs Giants (though not much lately) and then there's the Giants vs Dodgers (regardless of records, lotta pride at stake). But when its all said and done, Yankees vs Red Sox seem to be the best rivalry in baseball and one of the most intense in all the sports.
